Ralph's Diary

Thursday 3rd ;   Excellent day,  work wise.  Lovely and sunny,  out and about all over the place.  Did some more prep work for the carnival and especially for the Sponsored Stocks.  This is a hilarious event scheduled for 11am in the front of the Farmers Arms.  Why not come along and see various "villains"  getting soaked with soggy,  and very cold,  sponges?  The kids will love it and,  of course,  it is FREE.  Finished work at about 7  then had tea and prepared for the Farmers Quiz.  Money  (£217)  was NOT won.  Rolling over till next week  when is will be about  £240.  Question was;  "In which year was Alec Rose welcomed back onto British soil after his epic 354 day sailing trip?".  Answer tomorrow.   

Wednesday 2nd; Worked until lunchtime during which time the engineers had returned and managed to get the computer system back up and running (hence I am able to upload and edit my website.  Hooray!).  Had the afternoon off and went for a walk and a lovely picnic,  up to Beacon Tarn.  Weather was mixed.  One minute bright sunshine then the clouds would cover up again.  The tarn was beautiful and flat calm.  Gorgeous!  Only say 4 other people up there.  It is truly amazing what outstanding natural beauty lies all around us.  Caught the  Federer match which was very exciting and of course,  Andy Murray.  He did wonderfully well but not well enough against such a talent as Nadal.  My forecast of the final between Nadal and Federer  still looks good. (I forecast this on 24th June). In the evening went up to the Little Kings,  Farmers and Capitola with the usual Wednesday Night Reprobates.  Very pleasant.

Tuesday 1st July;   Busy again and sold one!   Computers playing up.  Seriously stressed day.  Engineers doing a lot of taking in deep breaths and "ooh-ing and argh-ing".  Gone away to read the manual now.  Ulverston Traders  Association meeting held,  for a change,  at Millers.  They did look after us and provided sandwiches too!.  Waiting to see what the Computer Engineers come up with tomorrow.

Monday 30th;  Good day at the office.  Followed by a very active evening completing my VAT  Return!

Sunday 29th; Got up early to help with the Registration of the Great Escape 7 motorcycle tour round Cumbria. Starting form Stollers in Barrow ,  220  miles finishing then  in Ulverston.  Went off to  Bowness  to collect something then went up High Dam for a walk.  Not the sunniest of weather but still very picturesque.  Then back for 4 to the market Place to await the return of the bikes.  they were delayed and it was after 5 when they turned up to enjoy drinks and sandwiches generously provided by The Farmers.    Had a couple of pints of Guinness whilst waiting then home for tea and a read of the Sunday papers.   A very nice weekend.
